Citadel re-launches with programme for children and families

After sadly closing the Citadel Arts Centre in June, Citadel has relaunched with a new name, CITADEL ARTS and a new remit to present an outstanding arts programme for children and families in St Helens.  This means that Citadel Arts will be popping up in unexpected and non-traditional spaces across St Helens with a programme that has something to interest every young person and family in town.

We launch in October with Emily Rising and CITADEL ARTS BIG IMAGINATIONS FESTIVAL, 2 weeks of children and family shows from 19th – 31st October.  For this exciting run of shows you’ll find Citadel Arts taking over the Winter Wonderland store on Church Street (opposite McDonalds) bringing a magical array of shows to the empty retail space.

Join Citadel Arts as we fly through the sky with Emily Rising on 19th October and have fun with I Pads in iPet on 20th October.  A spooky treat that’s perfect for lovers of Harry Potter comes to town on 27th October in The Mystery of the Raddlesham Mumps and on 28th October you can be transported into a magical and wonky dream world in Stitch Brothers Patchwork Wonders, a genre bursting mix of beatboxing, live drawing, animation and hip hop.  Join The Musical Botanist on 29th October when he brings his mesmerising market stall, where you can make your own music just by touching the magical, musical plants.  And on Halloween take a seat in our giant pop-up story cove to hear some of your favourite stories told with a bit of a twist in Traditional Tales with a Twist.

All of these events can be booked now via the Citadel Arts website

With craft activities taking place before some of the shows, there really is something to keep all ages entertained coming to the space throughout the festival.  With ticket prices from as little as £3 and free tickets for adults on some selected shows, it’s an affordable treat that all the family can enjoy.

Citadel Arts are thrilled to be bringing these fantastic family shows to St Helens, taking them out to the public and presenting magical children’s theatre in unusual spaces.   We continue in December with CITADEL ARTS CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL, performances from 7th to 23rd December for very young audiences. Look out for further details of next year’s programme which will include CITADEL ARTS STORY TELLING FESTIVAL in libraries, CITADEL ARTS MUSIC AND COMEDY FESTIVAL and CITADEL ARTS OUTDOOR FESTIVAL.

Young people interested in taking part in Citadel Arts activities can join CITADEL ARTS YOUTH THEATRE and anyone interested in taking part in our workshops can join our Citi-Dis-Arts groups, for more information go to
